Dwight Derby House
Tuesday, September 173:00—4:00 PMCommunity Room Sherborn Library 4 Sanger St. , Sherborn , MA, 01770
Geoff Sauter, President of The Friends of the Dwight-Derby House will give a presentation entitled, “Revisiting the Dwight-Derby House”. The presentation will cover the unique structure of the house, the histories of the many families who lived there, and how the residents of Medfield intervened in 1996 to prevent the demolition of the property. Of particular interest to many will be the history of George Horatio Derby, who grew up in the Dwight-Derby house and went on to become the father of satire in the United States, preceding Mark Twain as well as others.
Mr. Sauter is both a historian and genealogist, and is a direct descendant of the first selectmen of both Medfield and Sherborn. Last year he was interviewed for a Chronical segment on WCVB Channel Five in Boston.
This program is co-sponsored by the Sherborn COA and the Sherborn Library
